NON SCALE VICTORY: Indian Style & Hey! I’m not as fat as I used to be!

in Non Scale Victory

I did something today that I haven’t done in, oh, 22 years! I sat down on the floor INDIAN STYLE! Can you believe it?! I tried sitting indian style during the classroom session of our Crossfit workout at IronTribe, and I actually did it! I didn’t say anything to anyone, but I was having a party in my mind.

Also, I’m slowly starting to overcome my “I still weigh 600 lbs” mentality. I’m learning in crossfit that I might not be able to move the full range of motion or the same amount of weight as the others in our class, but I am able to accomplish the movements. Which, to me, is a big deal!!! I often still see myself as that 632 lb guy that couldn’t climb ladders, walk 2 blocks without getting winded, and also couldn’t fit into chairs with arms.

My latest moment of getting over the old me occurred yesterday: I needed to change a bulb on my truck that was located, well it’s easier if I show you a picture:

That is a very difficult spot for an individual of size to reach. It does require for one to climb onto the bed lid of the truck, then crawl to the location, and finally use a screwdriver to unscrew two screws and remove the cover. My first thought, “I’ll pay a local shop $20 to replace that $3 bulb.” My second thought, “I’m gonna at least attempt to change it.” The amazing part was that it was fairly easy for me to get up there and replace that bulb, thus VICTORY!

Now, let me tell you about the truck bed lid that’s on my truck. The brand is Undercover, and I was hesitant to climb on top of it because most bed lids aren’t designed to hold  even the smallest of folks, but I remember an ad that had an entire hockey team on top one of these lids… So, I took it upon myself to be a product field tester, and the lid gets two thumbs up, it didn’t flinch a bit with my 350 lb body moving around on it.

I have proof:

Words cannot describe how good it felt to be on top of that lid. It made me feel like I could take on the world. *cough* I’m available to be a product spokesperson. *cough*

GREAT NSV! That’s another one of those reasons I love cross fit stuff… when you get to stop modifying and do the real work outs it’s such a sensation of accomplishment!

The two movements that I look forward to the most are the pullup (I’ve never done one) and the push up (it’s been way too long). :)

YOU GO WITH YO BAD SELF!! Sitting Criss-Cross Applesuace IS a big deal!!!! (that’s what we call indian-style in my classroom) AND ^5 for changing that light yourself. I think CrossFit teaches you that you CAN do things you never thought you could…and it translates outside the gym as well. You CAN do things you never thought you could…including changing that light on your truck!! JOB WELL DONE!! BOOM!!!!
