2010 Run for Wishes

I got so wrapped up in the pool drama that I didn’t tell you about the Run for Wishes 5k Saturday.

The event was a success!! I wish we had more participants there, but other than that it was great.

My role during the race was to direct the runners and I cheered when they looped back around. I do wish that we had more cheerleaders!! I’ll recruit more for next year!! (Ha! I’ll be in charge of Cheerleader auditions!)

After the 5k,  we had a short kids fun run. It was over with in like three minutes.

Also, the winner of the 5k was a female, which is not the norm. I was glad she won. (I’m a little embarrassed ’cause I don’t remember her name.)

The only problem that I had with the event, and I think Danny had an issue too was that we only has one keg. We went through that thing so fast. :) I’ll make sure we have adequate amounts of beer next year. :)

I want to thank Dusti for coming out and running the 5k. I hope to join you at the next race, and hopefully your husband’s collar bone has healed by then. I also want to thank Kim and Trey for running the 5k too. Y’all looked good out there.

After the races and awards ceremony was over, I hit the water park. I was really impressed with the water park at Alabama Adventure. I just hung out in the lazy river and wave pool. (It doesn’t take much to make me happy.) – It was really, really hot that day, and I got a strong tan (yes, I wore sun block.) A tan is better than a burn. Also, there were a lot of bikinis out there. Just sayin!! :)

We’ve already got the date set for next year, and I can’t wait. I should be able to run this 5k next year!!! However, I’d rather volunteer. I’ll pick another one that month to run.

The Pool

I went to the pool this morning at the Y. Moe was ready for me. He said, “you missed a few days, you got to make them up.” I like Moe. I did my usual drills. 1 lap holding out the board in front of me, and only use my legs to swim. At the same time keeping my head in the water and blowing out bubbles through my nose,  I come up for air when I need to. We’re working on my legs. I am so buoyant because of my fat that I barely move during this drill.

The second drill that I do is attach paddles to my hands and swim like a frog. I do 3 laps with the paddles, and then it’s back to the 1st drill. This morning I did 4 sets of drills in an hour. So that’s 16 laps, a lap is 50 yards (it’s a 25 yard pool). So, that’s a total distance of 800 yards. That’s not too terrible.

Moe said that I’ll be doing some water jogging next week.

I plan on going back to the pool in the morning. :)

You might consider signing up for water aerobics. That will get you comfortable with the pool, and after you're comfotable, you do your thing!! Have fun!!

I'm going to join you in the pool. I might also join Stacia's challenge! Just need to find a real life friend to get in the water also- that is the hard part. I know for sure I'll get in the pool multiple times per week.

I'm taking some swim-workout tips from you. One of these days I'm going to find a pool and I shall do this water-jogging and boogie-board/kicking drill. (This weekend I'm going to go to a waterpark here in NY! Too bad there's not a swim-up bar.) But I hear ya about boyancy. I always laugh because my big boobs = I float. It makes diving down to the bottom of a really deep pool very difficult! But hey…I'll never drown. I've got a built-in life raft. :-D

You almost swam half a mile this morning :) 2 more laps and it would be. Awesome job!
