This past Wednesday I visited the doctor because I felt that I was developing an ear infection. Fortunately, there was just some minor inflammation in my jaw, and all I needed to do was take some ibuprofen.
Before the doc looked at my ear, he lectured me about my weight gain. The last time that I saw him my weight was down to 499 lbs. Now my weight was at 538 lbs. The doc gets frustrated with me because I visit with him for weight loss advice and my routine visits. Then I ignore his advice. In January of 2009 he made a good point. He basically said, “Stephen, why do you see me about your weight? You’ve been coming to my office for a couple of years, and you have either repeatedly lost a little and gained it back, or you have gained even more weight than when you started seeing me.”
I thought about it and he was right. He has always been great, and has cheered when I’ve done well, and fussed when I needed to be fussed at. And at that time I believe he was almost getting to the point of giving up on me. Then I started this blog, lost a lot of weight, and, as you know, I have gained some weight back. So, the doc and I are starting over…
So, just like when I first starting see my doc, I am going to visit him every two weeks to check in, and also to receive a testosterone injection. What’s great is that he gives me a discount for the bi-weekly office visit and injection.
Testosterone
In the past, I’ve mentioned the bad side effects of the testostirone gel that was prescribed. I would get abmormally angery. When I discussed this with my doc this past visit he said I probably had too much T. in my system. So we’re gonna do the injections.
I did notice that I had a ton of energy since the injection last Wednesday. Thus the point of the shot. My body is not producing normal amounts of testosterone because of my lack of activity. So, he gives me the shots to bring my T levels to a normal level to help me with my exercise.
State of Emergency
What I really learned from this last visit was that the Doc stressed that I am in a state of emergency. He said if I work hard, I can knock this weight out in two years. He wants me to exercise two hours every day. He said I’ve got to have the mindset of an olympic athelete.
I can’t guarantee that I will do the two hours a day, but I understand why he wants me to do it, and I know that I am physically able to do it. I feel that I am in real good shape for a someone that weighs 538 lbs. I’ve walked a 5k, 10k, and used to swim a lot.
Major League
I feel like these quotes from the movie Major League, “We’re contenders now.” And, “we just need something to bring it all together.” So now I’m ready to “strike this mother fu$%er out”.
Starting Fresh
I’m starting fresh on Monday with my eating and workouts. I did do a workout last week. It was a quick power lift. (Power lift for me, most guys will probably laugh.) I did 3 sets of an 85 lb bench press. First set 10 reps, and each additional set was 5 reps. I also did 3 sets/10 reps of a 95 lb dead lift.
This workout was done a few days before my doctor visit just to get me back in the flow of working out. I was sore for a couple of days, but made sure that I took in a lot of protein and water for recovery. Donny taught me that is the secret to cutting down on soreness.
You can tell I haven’t blogged in a long time. I have a ton of info to share with you, and I’ll be posting more tonight. :=)

It’s good to have you back in Birmingham’s blogosphere! I’m looking forward to the new updates.
It’s good to be back. Sorry I disappeared. I’ve got to find better ways to deal with bad sh*t when it happens because everyone knows that sh*t happens. I hope you’re doing well!! Wish I could have made it to the prayer breakfast the other day to see you speak.

Hey Stephen!
Even though I don’t see you as much lately, I still think of you and hope you are doing well and getting bit by bit closer to reaching your goal! I know sometimes the mental part is harder than the physical part. A new year is always a reason to adopt a new challenge.

Hey dude! I’m not trying to be harsh on you – but early in this blog you pointed out that your doctor gives you advice and you don’t take it – then a few paragraphs later, you mention that he told you you pretty much HAVE TO work out two hours a day, and you follow that up with ‘I can’t guarantee I will.’
You’ve just shown an example of how you aren’t taking the advice he gives you. Granted – two hours of exercise will be hard on anyone, but he’s telling you to do it to keep you alive. I know when you think about all the things you have to do in a day, two hours seems like a lot – but it’s your life we’re talking about here.
So pleeeeeeease – if there is anything you do, please do what he asks. Don’t workout so hard that you can’t make it through the two hours, but don’t half ass it either. Two hours a day isn’t bad and if it will make a difference in your quality of life, just do it.
You can do it and this comment is not meant to tear you down in anyway. You can do it buddy, so do it!

How about walking 1 hour at work for your lunch break. You have a great area to walk in. Safe. Then one hour at home at night on the equipment. Would not be so boring.
I would thinking being very overweight is deadly to you. I know I heard someone in the medical profession say something about Rueben Studdard and I never thought of it until then.. “If he does not get some weight off he will die early.” That scared me.. I am getting my weight off this year. I plan a pound a week. By the end of the year 52 lbs and that way I can keep it off!
