Quick Post

Food wise I had a good day. I got a workout in this morning, but it is still raining outside! This rain has got to go! It’s been raining here off and on for 2-3 weeks.

I also managed to get plenty of water in today.

I’m doing my best to stay awake. I’ve gotta go to bed. I’ll be more entertaining tomorrow. Maybe I’ll tap dance or something.

Have a great Tuesday!

Renewed Self Confidence

I have a boost of self-confidence from yesterday. It’s funny how slipping a little every day leads to not-so-desirable results, then I start to lose confidence in myself. Now the self-confidence meter has been reset to one-hundred and I’m ready to rock the scale and rock the workouts.

Tomorrow morning I am gonna try something new. I will prepare and measure all of my food for the day in the morning. Oops, except for lunch. I am meeting a couple of folks for lunch. I will order a salad at the restaurant. Anyway, I will measure out my snacks and supper. This way I’ll know in the morning what my food intake will be for the day. The rule is that I will only eat what’s in the containers that I store the day’s food in. One of my problems lately has been portion size. Every day I slowly increase my portion sizes. This will solve that problem.

Additionly, I will be implementing the 1/2 gallon water jug again. I keep complaining about not drinking enought water. Well, now the problem is solved. One of my concerns with drinking out of this jug is I’m not sure if it is a BPA free jug. Right now I don’t care. I’ve already consumed a lot of water out of this jug. Also, I have a gut feeling (no pun intended) that the BPA stuff may be a load of crap! I might be totally wrong, but I have to go with my gut.

Now about the exercise, I haven’t been doing enough lately, and I have to do some heavy workouts everyday to prepare for the 10k on Nov 7th. Here’s my schedule for this week:

  • Mon/Wed/Fri morning: workout at Andy’s
  • Tues/Thur afternoon: workout with Donnie at Fitness Together
  • Mon/Wed/Fri afternoon: walk at least 2 miles
  • Tues/Thur morning: walk at least 2 miles
  • Weekend: work on hills and practice 2 mile portions of the 10k course (3 mile portions if I feel like it)

I’ll be logging my workouts on the dailymile.com site. The dailymile.com widget is on the right hand side of my blog.

It’s bedtime for me. I gotta wake up early tomorrow.

Have a great Monday! Make it count!

My First 5k

The Susan G Komen Race for the Cure was more awesome than expected. To start the day, I woke up at 5:30am (too early on a Saturday morning). We headed downtown and just got there for the group pic at 8:30. Then, I went and got my timing chip for the race. After that it was time to start. Andrew, another Make-A-Wish Dream Team member, stayed with me until the race started.

Before the race started there was a parade of survivors. These were groups of women that were categorized according to how long they have been survivors of breast cancer. It was awesome seeing everybody applaud these ladies, and it was especially touching seeing the lead lady sob through the parade. I’m sure she has been through a lot.

The starting line was insane because there were so many people. The experience of this race was awesome. It was people watching heaven. I loved seeing all of the kids in the race, and I loved seeing all of the dogs that people were walking/running. Also, I was shocked to find a lot of skinny people walking the race. I thought there was some unwritten rule that if you were skinny and in good health, you have to run at these events. I was wrong.

The course was very easy with no steep hills. The only problems that I ran into during the race were my legs chaffing and my toes hurting. I overcame those minor issues and finished the race in 1 hr 20min, which was a good pace for me. However, I’ve got some training that I absolutely must do before next months 10k. I didn’t train like I was supposed to for this 5k but was able to walk it because it’s a short race. I won’t have that luxury at the 10k. It’s either train and walk the 10k or don’t train and don’t walk the 10k. For me, 6.4 miles is no easy task.

I am proud of myself. If you had told me this time last year that I would be walking a 5k today, I would have laughed. It felt good to get out there and participate. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about wanting to do a 5k. What’s stopping you? Just find a 5k that you can walk in and start walking every day. Please don’t think that the only way to participate in a 5k is to run them. If that were the case, then I wouldn’t have been able to participate in today’s race because there’s no way that I can run anything.

I wanted to take a lot of pics today but there was a very light drizzle throughout the entire race. These events happen rain or shine. Also, I had trouble with the Wordpress Flickr plugin pulling in the images from my flickr account. I’ll figure out a way to fix it. I did manage to take a few pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/http/sets/72157622548166498/

Some of the Make-A-Wish Dream Team people ran the course twice. Two of the ladies said hello as they ran by at the finish of my 5k and I asked if they had run the course twice. Of course they said yes. Then I told them “Get out of here” I was doing everything I could to walk the 3.2 miles. :)

Tomorrow I will take a break from walking and working out. Right now I am sore! If I had trained like I was supposed to, I wouldn’t be having the soreness.

Well, now I’m gonna be checking off the “walk a 5k” item on my Goals and Milestone page.

I hope you have a blessed Sunday.

Tomorrow’s the Big Day

The Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5K is tomorrow. I will be taking pictures with my phone before, during, and after the race. After capture, the pics will automatically be uploaded to my flickr account. I have created a page that will pull those images from my Flickr account: http://www.whoatemyblog.com/make-a-wish-dream-team/race-for-the-cure/live-pics

To view the latest pics from the race, refresh the live pics page. This is so cool! I already have 3 pics on there from my race packet pickup this afternoon.

We are meeting at 8:30am CST for a Make-A-Wish Dream Team group shot before the race. Then the race starts at 9am. The more I think about it, the more nervous I get. A ton of people are gonna be there.

I attempted to make a custom shirt with my ink jet printer. FAIL! – The print outs looked great, but after applying the transfers to the shirt, the images looked faded. I could barely make out what the image was. Oh well. Live and Learn.

Finally, I want to say a big THANK YOU to Ryan, a friend that co-owns a local digital printing company. Today I was working at a client’s location and Ryan delivered some business cards to this client while I was there. He popped in where I was working and told me that I was doing a good job, and that he reads my blog periodically. Ryan had just left his workout with his personal trainer and realized that he had some business cards to deliver. — Thank you Ryan for saying something. You really lifted my spirits this afternoon.

Finally #2: Prior Fat Girl is giving away a book: 101 Things to Do Before You Diet. Check it out: http://www.priorfatgirl.com/2009/10/book-review-giveaway.html — I’m glad to see that you’re doing better. :)

Getting excited about the race

I have been working hard this week in preparation for Saturday’s 5k. I worked out on Monday at Andy’s office on the Bowflex, and worked out Tuesday with Donnie at Fitness Together in Patton Creek (Hoover, AL). Also, I walked 2 miles on Monday, half a mile on Tuesday, and one-third of a mile this morning. Also, this afternoon I will be working out with Donnie again.

I tell you, working out with a personal trainer is awesome. Donnie shows me everything I need to do, sets the equipment up, plans my workouts, and explains why he has me doing certain lifts. Sure, at first I was very sore, and this is normal when first starting to lift weights. However, now I can put in a major workout and not feel sore the following day. So, when starting out, focus on surviving the first two-three weeks because after that is when the magic starts happening. I have noticed a major boost in energy and I can tell that my muscles are firming.

I love Donnie’s training style in that he doesn’t get in my face and yell at me like the stereotypical trainer. I guess some people need that to train, but I don’t like that. Don’t get me wrong, he provides a great workout. I am worn out when the workout is complete.

On Tuesday I did the bench press (95lbs, 3 sets of 5 reps), Clean & Press or Press & Clean [I can't remember] (45 lbs, 2 sets of 10 reps), Bicep Curl (45 lbs, 2 or 3 sets of 10 reps), Dead Lifts (75lbs one set and 95lbs two sets of 12 reps), Body Weight Squats (3 sets of 12 reps),  and Sit Ups with 8lb medicine ball (3 sets of 10 to 12 reps) — I think I left some things out, but Donnie takes notes and tracks my progress. I think I need to get a copy of his notes.

On Saturday, I will be be doing some pre and post race tweets. I might even do a video with my phone, but I will definitely have some pics and a post on Saturday night. Saturday should be pretty crazy. It’s my first race, and it’s the biggest 5k in Alabama. I have to go pick up my race packet either today or tomorrow. Also, I bought a black sleeveless shirt yesterday, and will be printing out my blogosaurus and WhoAteMyBlog.com text on t-shirt transfer paper. I’ll be putting that together tonight or tomorrow night. I’ll post pics of the completed shirt before the race. The WhoAteMyBlog.com text will be pink for the Race for the Cure.

I hope you have a great Thursday.

Quick Check-In

The Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5k is this weekend, and I’m trying to get some workouts and long walks in before the race. I walked two miles Sunday morning and half a mile this morning. I also worked out this evening on the Bowflex. It has been rainy outside, which is interfering with my walks.

I have been doing fine food wise.

I have just been feeling blah lately. I’ve got some re-working I need to do on my plan and motivation. Today I have just been tired.

I am excited about the race on Saturday. We scouted race course on Sunday, and I don’t foresee any problems.

Have a great Tuesday.

Bad Week but Getting Better

Well, I guess I should go ahead an spill it: I didn’t do to well this week. Monday, we walked our 1.5 mile route, but Tues and Wed I didn’t do anything. Also, on Tues I binged on some spaghetti, but today things were okay. I didn’t walk this morning, but I did work out with Donnie at Fitness Together this afternoon. We are going to walk in the morning.

Monday, I didn’t lose or gain any weight, and that was part of my problem. The other problem was my birthday on Monday. I didn’t eat anything bad, well, I didn’t do much of anything Monday, and that had me depressed, but now I’m okay. This weekend my mom and I are going to celebrate. My aunt sent me a cute card with some birthday money (a dollar for every pound lost) So, today I ordered a TMobile MyTouch 3G. I really want an iPod but I’m still under contract with TMobile, the T-Mobile rates are cheaper than AT&T, and the MyTouch is more affordable. I’ve talked with some people about it, and they really love it.

Now, my primary goal is to train hard for the upcoming Walk for the cure. I will be doing two-a-days everyday until the race on Oct 10. I’ll walk in the morning and workout in the afternoon. I really, really want to be in the 400’s for the race.

This weekend I’ll be blogging about last weekend at Wordcamp Birmingham. Also, some Birmingham, AL tweeps are meeting for lunch tomorrow. I’ll be going to this and blogging about it tomorrow.

I hope to go to Wordcamp Atlanta in Georgia this January. I will have all of my Wordpress questions ready by then.

Have a great Friday!
