Weigh In Day

by Stephen Vinson on August 10, 2009

Weekly weigh-in: 536 lbs.
Loss: + 4 lb.
Total loss: 96 lbs.
Emotion: relieved

Considering all of the bad sh*t I ate this weekend, a four pound gain was not bad.

I’ve already got my mile walk in this morning, and I’m about to workout.

Here’s to a good week.

It definitely could have been worse. You better lock in with your focus and effort, Stephen. The math (and time) is starting to work against you to meet your race-day goal.

Hey brother, sorry to hear about the gain and the binge, that's never fun times.Totally agree with you on the emotional eating thing. I mean, yea, bottom line one does just not get to 600 lbs + without some issues, and I would argue there never has been and never will be a 600 lb man who is not depressed – the kind of lifestyle we were living was miserable, so incredibly miserable. All I can do now is live one day at a time, which is a clice obviously, but is SO important for me. And one day at a time helps keep the impatience at bay, and helps put things in perspective. Ironically I've spent a lot of my life getting frustrated and pissed off about stuff (and often eating as a result, though to be fair, any emotion used to trigger a binge, I did it every day) but my point is that all those things I got upset about were little things in the grand scheme of things: I messed up a little at work, I made a social faux pas, I didn't get to eat/drink/nap/do nothing/etc. when I wanted to, etc, while all the while I was doing so many things I should've been mad about to myself. Now I just try to let things go. Food should have nothing to do with emotions in my life. Food is energy. Food isn't a reward or a punishment. It's not a comfort or an activity. I don't want it to be anything than what it NEEDS to be. I love food, but it has nothing to do with feeling crappy, or feeling elated, or bored, or angry, or excited, etc. Afterall, I don't equate drinking water or breathing air with any of those emotions right? One day at a time we can do anything. Can I eat right, be healthy, be helpful to others, be kind yet accountable to myself, exercise, etc for just 24 hours? I believe I can, and guess what, thats all any of us ever…EVER, have to do.Have a great day man.

Keep on keepin' on. I've seen the scale say the same thing. One day at a time.

You are so correct, you must lose the weight for the right reason. The challenge can be a great motivator, but remember that you are working hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is not fun that you gained four pounds this week, but it does not shadow the fact that you lost 96 pounds since you started.Hang in there and work hard – I believe in you!z.

Hey at least you get to lose 100 pounds again! Eh, I guess sometimes in the middle of a long regimen you just need to go wild and get it out of your system. Yes, here's to a better week for you!

The most important thing for me as I lost my 150 pounds was not giving up. And you are doing great – just put that "gain" behind you, and move right on forward. It's not always easy, but it is always worth it!

Hi Stephen! I'm new to your blog but am so inspired to see how far you've come. I can take some of your lessons and apply them to my own weight loss journey. I'm an emotional eater as well so I sure can relate to your post. Please know that I support your efforts!

hey, i know youre good with the gain, but i just want to remind you that all people who have weight issues dont have them for the same reasons. there are some people that can just turn on a switch and lose weight and change their lives. sometimes they scoff at those that dont have that switch. the fact that you have even realised you need to and have have embarked on the journey is so positive, so dont let the "failures" get you down (i can see that youre already changing in that respect- youre not reverting back!). youre doing great.
