Farmer's Market

by Stephen Vinson on August 1, 2009

Mom and I went to the Farmer’s Market at The Pepper Place in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. I checked out the market’s web site, and this is the tenth year for the market. Today was our first visit, but not our last.

I was very impressed.

They had some good deals: We got a basket of 6 big tomatoes for $4.00, large basket of Chilton County peaches for $7.00, small basket of cucumbers for $3.00, and two cantaloupes for $6.00.

The best part: we supported local farmers!

We peeled and sliced the peaches and cantaloupe, and then put them in the freezer.

The above pic: a sirloin burger baked with onion, tomato, cucumber, peaches, and cantaloupe.

We also went to Sam’s Club and bought shredded lettuce, salad mix, onions, plums, yogurt, milk, frozen sirloin patties, and frozen chicken breasts for approximately $60.00.

You inspired me to look up the local farmer's market in my area. Unfortunately the nearest one is not so near. But I'm going to go anyway. You food looked yummy!
